Empty pockets of space

It’s 2:00PM and the sun is shining,

but all I can see are the shadows your presence have left behind.

Empty pockets of space where you began and I ended,

tied up together like headphones jammed in a pocket,

a mystery never to be solved.

Like clockwork I rise to meet a day I never wanted to meet without

the feel of your hand in mine.

Intertwined,  breath merged into yours, hearts synced,

perfect serenity captured within eyes untethered to the despair of reality.

It’s 2:00PM and the sun is shining,

but all I can see are the shadows your presence have left behind.

Step after step

There is no greater enemy than the feeling of lethargy.

To drag your feet while the world opens itself to you

like the petals of a flower in bloom is a blasphemy without equal.

This is not an attack on leisure, for in slowing your pace

you can truly see the beauty of life around you.

But to allow yourself to wallow while life passes you by leads nowhere but despair.

A circle within a circle, it binds you to misery.

You need only exert your will on one task,

taking that first step.

And then the next step.

Again and again. Just moving forward towards something, anything.

For if you stay still and fear taking that next step, you are already dead.

Reset

One of the most important lessons to learn in life is that no matter how many times you fall, no matter how many times you start something and get sidelined, you can always try again.

It is always worthwhile after failing at something to take a step back and re-evaluate the methods you are using to attain your goals, but just throwing up your hands and never trying again simply because things did not work out is the best way to never accomplish anything in life as well as build a plethora of bad habits.

Sometimes you do need to give up. Sometimes a dream you have is unrealistic or simply not something you can attain at this moment in time, but usually all that means is that you need to look at it from a different angle. Maybe there is a direction you can head in that will bring you to a different destination and a deeper fulfillment then what you have been vainly struggling for. Searching honestly for the reasons you want to have something or implement a change in your habits is key.

At the end of the day though, we all go to sleep, and when you wake up, it is a full reset on our capacity to implement new changes in our lives, no matter what our situations are, even if those changes are only internally in regards to how we view our lives and our interactions with the environment.

Don’t be afraid to hit that reset button.

Bad habits

This need swells up like gale winds,

I am driven to act upon that which has broken me.

Habits die hard they say. I say habits kill you quickly.

This war within rages on, making ground, losing ground,

fighting across a void, the struggle to become a better

person is a holy calling that cannot be denied.

Finding purpose and meaning

Pure dedication to a cause. That intense, all consuming desire to stake your life on something you believe to be of the utmost importance to life.

People have found so many things to devote themselves to, whether it be a religion, family and friends, a lover, the freeing of a people from the shackles of tyranny, helping the poor and sick, the list goes on and on.

In our modern age, with people hyper distracted by 60 hour a week jobs that serve no purpose but driving the consumerist machine, social media that has created a “like me” economy that mostly leads to depression and an insane need for people to make up fairy tale moments to share on facebook and instagram which then lead to other people hating themselves for not having the life of that person who is not even happy in the first place.

We have lost so much of what used to really drive people to feel fulfilled in life and replaced it with things that will never truly fill that hole in our spirit that searches for a cause that can give life meaning.

I wish I had some answer on how people can re-discover a purpose, but that is an individual journey that each of us make take.

The only advice I can give is that YOU are the one who needs to take that first step down the path to discovering that purpose, that meaning that we all require. Don’t wait until it is too late.
