The crooked tree that refused to break

I miss the stillness you brought to my soul

You wrapped your presence around me

Like a blanket pulled from the dryer.

Your warmth was all I needed to quiet

The incessant voices clamoring for my attention.

You were the steady flame in the darkness,

That kept my feet on the path and my knees

from giving out.

You drew me ever forward, even though my

body wanted to collapse.

You were Starlight, a gentle breeze,

A thunderclap, the crooked tree that refused to break.

You were the oxygen I breathed.

You still are, always.
